That moment, you know the one, it's where you hold your breath
and hope that what you see before you you can capture as cleanly on film. The true essence of the moment; as the naked eye and the bare soul can sense it. That is the moment these photographers live for; their common ground. You are invited to meet the culturally and socially diverse photographers that make up our first photography show.

David Patton Los Angeles

November 18th - January 6th
David Patton Los Angeles will be open on Dec. 9th- NELAart night.

The opening featured a book release event for The Orange, a new book of poetry and images by Rupert Deese and Todd Young. The Orange, and earlier books by Rupert, Sam Deese and Todd Young are available through the gallery.

This solo show is a long-playing album worth of work that builds off of the singles that were presented as part of July's "Summertime" show: reasonably sized wall hung sculptures, considered pigments, hollow, hand-made (save for one) and calm structures.

PERFORMANCE: A Photographic Exhibition
featuring the work of Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg

January 20-Feb 24, 2007

The Del Valle Archive and the Drkrm. Gallery are proud to present a collection of rare images from two contemporary masterpieces of cinema created by the late Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg. Performance and The Man who fell to Earth. Performance is at once a collaboration by two filmmakers {Donald worked with the actors from his original script while Roeg worked his magic with the camera as well as blocking the scenes} both inexperienced at directing yet, what was referred to at the time as “the worlds most expensive home movie,” has become over the last three decades one of the most influential “cult” films ever made. Performance is not an easy film to comprehend the first time around unless you understand how well it captures the specific time in which it was made. The underbelly of crime in London represented by the Kray brothers, brutal and violent as it was, is morphed half way through the film into a druggy sub-culture represented by The Rolling Stones with the participation of their lead singer Mick Jagger who plays his role of “Turner” with an effete narcissism that seems to channel Brian Jones more or less.

    Park Projects

November 18th- December 3rd

Artist opening- November 18th

Park Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition of installations and works on paper by Mary Janacek. Janacek's installations use faux architectural interventions to explore the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. They expose the way we see, the phenomena in looking. Grass and tree branches growing from imperfections in the walls and baseboards bring an unsettling read to interior design principles. Interior and exterior spaces are united. On closer inspection, wall paintings blur the lines between what is flat and what has shape, between tangible objects and painted illusions.A large-scale window display of a suspended animation of fall leaves in the wind examines our relationship to seasons in Southern California. In a climate without seasons, changes in décor, department store displays, wreaths on front doors, seersucker or tweed, mark the time of year. The works on paper are small gauche diptychs of landscapes. The division of the picture plane creates a question of continuity between places.
Mary Janacek was born in Texas in 1978. In 2000 she graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute, and she received her MFA in 2005 from Cal Arts. She has exhibited work in spaces such as the Walter Mc Bean Gallery, Four Walls, DiverseWorks, and Lawndale Art Center. Her work has been featured in publications nationally and internationally including Matrix Magazine, Glasstire.com, and the Houston Press.
